Obituary For Gene Schenck

Mr. Gene W. Schenck, Sr., 80 of 132 Shaker Drive Lawndale, NC departed this life on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at his residence. He was born on November 25, 1942 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Warren G. Schenck and the late Lula Lois Wray Schenck.

Gene was a graduate of Douglas High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. After returning to Cleveland County, he received further education at Cleveland Technical College in law enforcement and welding. He worked briefly as a Sheriff’s deputy before he became a long distance truck driver working last with Elmore before retiring. Gene was a lifelong welder sharpening his skills as a fabricator.

As a fan of the outdoors, Gene enjoyed farming, gardening and hunting as well as cooking and preparing his game, such as squirrel, opossum, deer, turtle among others with his stews being a fan of many. He also enjoyed making homemade wines and he had a special name for them all. His other talents included lending his welding skills to building trailers and grills from scratch.

Gene was a member of Emmanuel Memorial AME Zion Church and served as a deacon. Before his health declined he loved attending church. Gene will also be remembered for his keen sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Larine Schenck; his brother, William Schenck;a granddaughter, Porscha Brooks and a brother in law, Sgt. Isaac Robinson, Jr.

He leaves fond and loving memories to his children, Gene Wayne Schenck, Jr. (Sharon) of Hinesville, GA, Abby Webber (Michael) of Cherryville, NC, Warren G. Schenck, II (Helen) of Lawndale, NC, Christie Williamson of Boiling Springs, NC, Marco Maddox of Shelby and Randolph Lee of Lawndale, NC; his grandchildren, NaQuisha L. Schenck, Sharanza Kelly (Franklin), Michael Webber, Jr., Warren Schenck, III, Chanel Webber, Bridgette Blanton, Brandon White, Avante Maddox and Jacory Maddox; eleven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Frank Schenck (Patricia) of Lawndale, Charles Schenck (Betty) of Hickory, NC, Donald Schenck (Edahlia) of Lawndale, Evelyn Robinson of Johns Island, SC and Sherrill Schenck (Venita) of Shelby; sister-in-law, Elzine Schenck of Waco, NC; special cousin and caretaker, Gwendolyn Surratt of Lawndale; aunts, Dorothy Jean Curry of MD, Patricia Schenck of Oakland, CA, Beulah Shipman of Fayetteville, NC and Kathleen Wills of MD; uncle Eddie Curry (Dorothy) of Philadelphia, PA; special friend, Gwen Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Emmanuel Memorial AME Zion Church. The service will be live streamed starting at 2:45 PM from Enloe Mortuary’s Facebook Page. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home and also on Saturday from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM at the church.
