Mr. Braxton Thomas Williams was born on February 20, 1934 in Johnston County (Smithfield) to the late Mr. Rubert Williams and Mrs. Annie L. Williams. Braxton departed this life on July 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Braxton was raised in Johnston County. He was educated in the Johnston County Public Schools where he met his wife, Winnie McNeil. Braxton and Winnie moved to Greensboro, NC., where they married and started their family. He worked multiple jobs, however, he retired from P. Lorillard after 30 years of service and he owned his own taxi #22. He had a love for traveling to many places such as Bahamas, Canada, Hawaii, France, Jamaica, Mexico and many cruises to name a few.
Braxton joined Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a devoted member for nearly 60 years. He served as the church van driver, a member of the Male Chorus and Sanctuary Choir. Additionally, Braxton served in the kitchen cooking, during a variety of events at church.
Braxton’s parents, Mr. Rubert and Annie L. Williams, preceded him in death along with 3 brothers and a sister. Lindsey Williams, Earl Williams, Harold Williams and Angenett Williams Pierce. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife, Winnie McNeil Williams; 4 children, Donald Williams (Edith), Vanessa Williams Hargrove, Braxton G. Williams (Melinda) and Timothy Williams (Vickie); 1 brother Rufus D. Williams (Christine); 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends.
Funeral service will be held Monday, July 17, 2023 at 12 pm Trinity AME Zion Church, 631 East Florida Street Greensboro, North Carolina. 11:30 AM Visitation.
Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens 5710 Riverdale Drive Jamestown, North Carolina.
