Mrs. Sarah L. Jones of Madison, Georgia transitioned Thursday, July 6, 2023 surrounded by her family at her residence. Sarah was born July 1, 1936 to the late Herbert “Buddy” Scott and Annie Greene Scott in Andrews, SC. She grew up with seven siblings in Andrews, South Carolina. She received her early years of education at Andrews Public Schools and her college education at Claflin College in Orangeburg, S.C., where she was initiated into the sisterhood of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. After she earned her undergraduate degree she moved to Washington, D.C. and attended Youngstown University in Youngstown, Ohio completing study for a Masters Degree in Education.
Mrs. Jones relocated to Madison, Georgia to apply for a teaching position that her cousins the late James (Pop) and Ruth McCray recommended her to apply for. She began her teaching career at Pearl Burney High School and after consolidation she moved to Morgan County Primary School where after 32 years of teaching she retired.
Sarah would be destined to meet a distinguished hard working gentleman, Bobby Jones; Sarah and Bob, guided by divine direction, united in marriage. The two of them worked together to build a home for their future children and in January of 1974 they became the parents of their first daughter, Marcia Shantell and a year and a half later to Candice Eletta in June of 1975. She was a loving grandmother and spent as much time with Justin, Kendahl (Chocolate Baby), Kennedy (Sweet Petunia), Tyler (Sweet Baby), Za’Miyah (Ms. Za’Miyah) and Don Jr. as she could. She often referred to them by the nicknames that she gave them.
Sister Sarah Jones grew up as a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. After her relocation to Madison, she was happy to know that she would still be able to worship God as an A.M.E. by becoming a devoted member of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church. Sarah selflessly served the Lord at her church as Head Trustee, Christian Education Director, Choir Director, Y.P.D. Director, Secretary of The WMS, member of Lay Organization and many other ways during her 55 plus years of faithful membership.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; a devoted mother-in-law, Salina B. Jones; brothers, Herbert Jr., Henry (Hambone), James (Booger), Thomas (Monk) and Samuel (Pete); and two sisters, Albertha (Bert) and Catherine (Cat).
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband Bobby, two daughters, Marcia S. Jones Gause and Don Gause of Conyers, GA, and Candice E. Jones Stinson and Andrae Stinson of Madison, GA; six grandchildren, Justin Jones of Madison, GA, Tyler Turner Gause, Kennedy S. Crutchfield, Kendahl K. Crutchfield, Za’Miyah S. Stukes all of Conyers, GA and Don D. Gause, Jr. of Charlestown, SC; special cousins, Majorie White of Syracuse, NY and Luetta Gibson of Georgetown, SC; sisters-in-laws Evelyn terrell, Margaret Jones, Glory Jones (Horace) of Madison, GA, Clara Woods (James) of Conyers, GA, and Angel Scott of Syracuse, NY; devoted friend and caretaker Annie Ruth Parks, nieces and nephews in Georgia, Sounth Carolina, Delaware, New York and Texas.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will begin Thursday, July 13, 2023 with viewing and visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Bernard's Madison Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. from Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 847 Fifth Street, Madison, Georgia; Reverend Aaron Carter will present her eulogy.
