Obituary For Linda Marie White

“Born the fifth child of eleven children, the mother of three daughters and one son, the grandmother of three grandsons and four granddaughters, Linda Marie Claville White gives the woman with the issue of blood an identifiable identity.” Linda was born on November 21, 1944, to the union of Wilford Claville Sr. and Thelma Stewart Claville, and she transitioned to her heavenly home on June 29, 2023. Her parents raised her and her siblings in a Christian home while attending Midway #1 Baptist Church, where Reverend Hartford James pastored. She accepted Christ at an early age at Midway, where her mother was a member prior to preceding her in death. Upon her death, she was a current member of Bridge of Hope Church pastored by Pastor Trevor Reid.

Linda, a native of Shreveport, LA, attended the public schools of Caddo Parish. She was a 1962 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, LA where she received a full four-year Naval ROTC scholarship to Grambling State University. She then began her career with the California Public Schools and subsequently went to work for Caterpillar Tractor Company, Inc. beginning in Shreveport, LA then moving to New Orleans, LA and finally relocating to Peoria, IL where she retired after thirty years of service from a career that began in 1969.

She also continued her education by attending Illinois Central College majoring in computer science. Coupled with her managerial experience, she became a Computer Programmer at Caterpillar Tractor Company Inc, headquartered in Morton IL. In addition to her spiritual life and walk with Christ, Linda was an avid writer and loved to spend time with her family and birthed three different books: “Parenthood is an Assignment, not a Choice,” “Story of a Mother’s Love that Transcends the Ages,” and “Going to Nineveh.” Everyone that she engaged with always commented on her infectious laughter, her radiant smile and her sincere caring way of making time for everyone around her. She always left a place and the world better than she found it. A passionate cook, there was always a place at her table as many still rave about her infamous gumbo. Linda was the ‘alabaster box’, a life poured out in a love for Christ and love for others.

She leaves to cherish her life, four children, Lanetha (Dennis) Neal of Fort Belvoir, VA, Bobbie (Daryl) Smith of Greensboro, NC, Avis (Daryl) Bush of Simpsonville, SC, and Myron (Sabrina) White of High Point, NC, seven grandchildren, Vincent, Jacob, Brandon, Alyssa, Lauren, Jessica, and Kristina, and two great grandchildren, Israel and Ikenna. She also leaves to cherish four siblings, Charles (LaSonia) Claville, Vernon (Janet) Claville, Michael Claville, and Cecelia Claville and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina 27401. I have fond memories of knowing Linda White. I always admired her strength, perseverance, and determination as a career woman and a mother. She was very successful in both capacities. I first met Linda when she moved to Peoria with three of her children some forty odd years ago- Bobby, Avis and Myron. Education was priority for Linda and it was also for her children. She wanted her children to be academically challenged and well-educated. Linda researched area school districts to select the one that could meet her high expectations. It was my privilege to get to know the family as I was an administrator in the school. Linda was very proud of each of her children. They were excellent students: smart, poised, and accomplished. They earned considerable honors during their high school years and went on to achieve success with their families and careers. Most importantly they modeled strong character and Christian principles that were important to Linda. She raised them right. I am one of the many people who fondly remember her mischievous giggle and her beautiful smile. That smile exists today in each of her children. They, too, have that same beautiful smile. Hopefully, the memories of happier days with Linda will be a source of comfort all of you who will miss her. May the love and support of family and fiends help to sustain you in the days ahead. God bless you all. Maggie Noe "If you have only one smile, give it to people you love." Maya Angelou
