Lottie Mae Henry Fleming, the daughter of the late Moses Henry Sr. and Lucille Lemon Henry was born on August 26, 1950 in the Pine Grove Community. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Henry, Moses Henry Jr., and Willie Henry, father-in-law, Booker T. Fleming, Sr., sister-in-law, Liddia Wilson and two brothers-in-law, Booker T. Fleming, Jr. and Frank Stanley Fleming.

She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County School District Two and graduated from Manning Training High School in 1968. She continued her studies at Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While at Allen University, Lottie was initiated in Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Allen University in 1969. She was a Charter member of Phi Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Manning, South Carolina. There she served as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. She became a Golden Soror in 2019 after serving faithfully in the sorority for 50 years.

Lottie was a diligent and faithful servant for God. She became a member of the Biggers A.M.E. Church shortly after her union to Dave. She served in many capacities including: Class Leader, Church Secretary, Church School Teacher, Debutante-Master Commissioner, Pastor’s Aide Chairperson, Youth Choir Advisor,

Finance Committee Chairperson, WMS President, member of the Mass and Combined Choirs, member of the Trustee Board, and Pro-Tem of the Steward Board. She was the 2011 WMS Honoree of the Biggers A.M.E. Church Maybelle Samuels and Vander Fleming, Jr. Scholarship Banquet. Lottie’s innate leadership and love for Christ allowed her light to shine as she served and was honored beyond her local church. She was the Superintendent of the Manning District Church School, member of the Manning District Finance Committee, a member of Lay Organization, Vice President for the Manning Area WMS, Debutante-Master Commissioner for the Manning District, and she had the honor bestowed upon her as the 2019 WMS Torchlighter of the Central South Carolina Conference.

Lottie was a pillar in the Clarendon County Community. She began her teaching profession in 1971 and taught at Scott’s Branch High School in Summerton, South Carolina for 41 years. She coached Basketball, Softball and Cheerleading; and she was a great mentor to the many students she taught. In 2012, Lottie was conferred with a Certificate of Merit by the Dukes Foundation for her contributions in Education in Clarendon County. Most recently, she was a 2022 recipient of the Shining Light Educator Award from the Lighthouse Foundation.

In 1971, Lottie married her late husband of 50 years, Dave Ali Fleming Sr. Of this union, they were blessed with three children, Teresa Fleming of Philadelphia, PA, Dave Fleming Jr (Armetria) of Charlotte, NC and Maurice Fleming (Laravia) of Sumter, SC.

On June 12, 2023, God in his wisdom looked down into His garden and picked this beautiful rose, Lottie H. Fleming, at the residence of her daughter, Teresa Fleming, in Philadelphia, PA.

She leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memories her children, Teresa, DJ and Maurice; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Everlena Fleming; three brothers-in-law, Milton Fleming (Carolyn), Wendell Fleming and Earl Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Canty and Bobbie Wilson; one special brother, Charles Lemon (Lorraine); a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM til 6:00 PM Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Hayes F. Samuels Sr., Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, SC.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, June 19, 2023 at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St., Manning, SC. Burial will follow in the Muldrow Cemetery, Manning, SC.

The family is receiving friends beginning Friday, June 16, 2023, at her residence, 1955 Kingstree Hwy, Manning, SC.
