Obituary For Larry Eugene Monk

LARRY EUGENE MONK, the son of the late Benjamin "Jumbo" Monk and the late Jenova (Pritchett) Monk, was born on Thursday, January 13, 1955 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

He received his formal education in the Harrisburg Public School System and attended the John Harris Campus for his high school years, where he played on the boys’ basketball and baseball teams. In 1974, he received his diploma from Harrisburg High. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he returned to his hometown and having a desire to further his education, he attended Harrisburg Area Community College where he obtained a Certificate in Photography. After purchasing his first boat, Larry decided to go back to school for training to become a Staff Officer in the United States Coast Guard. Along with all his education and training, he also had 29 years of service with the New Cumberland Army Depot, completing his last year at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot earning many awards and certificates throughout his 29 year career. While employed by the federal government, he also played recreational basketball on their pickup team.

Larry was a devoted family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He had a very big heart and would give the shirt off of his back to help someone. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling with his family, boating, fishing, music and photography. Boats and Photography were his passions, which he enjoyed the most. When he was not doing any of those activities, he would be tinkering with one of his many electronic devices.
