Funeral service for Samuel L. Bates "Sammy Todd" 74, will be Saturday, May 27 at 2 pm at the Heflin Rec Center with Rev. Stacey Hill, officiating. Interment will follow in Heflin Memorial Garden. Mr. Bates passed away on May 19, 2023. Mr. Bates' remains will arrive at the Center two hours prior to his service.

Mr. Bates was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife: Rita Bates; his children: Virginia (Ray) Smith, Corey (Brandy) Bates, Samuel M. Bates, Antwan (Toniesha) Estelle, Toddrekius (La'Tesa) Bates, Tamesha (Nick) Bates, Shaneka (Ali) Chapman and Cavin Bates; siblings: Jimmy (Debra) Bates, Kenneth (Renee) Hill, Helen Ervin and Tammy (Gilbert) Lockett; 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
