Mr. James Richard Dobson, Jr.

James Richard Dobson (Ricky) was born on November 4, 1966 and went home to glory on May 21, 2023.

James, a native of Guilford County attended both Southern Guilford High School and North Carolina A&T State University. He was an outstanding athlete and posted the single season rushing record at Southern Guilford where he also received all conference and all state accolades. He also played football for NC A&T and was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Inc.

James was a successful entrepreneur that worked for everything he had. He was the proud owner of Five Points Barbershop and Dobson Transportation, Inc.

James was known as a community leader and always giving back. He provided countless kids with free haircuts and backpacks to start school. James was a devoted Christian and was a faithful member of Oasis Empowerment of Faith under the leadership of Apostle Brandon Thompson, Pastor.

He was a devoted husband and father, married to his beloved wife, Janice for 16 years; he was the dad to Brandon, Brittney and Bryan Woods; everyone knew how much he loved his kids, and witnessed how his grandkids, Brayden, Kealani, Carter, Kayleigh and Julian captured his heart; James also leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Delores Brandon and husband Kenneth Brandon of Greensboro, NC; and father, James Dobson, Sr. and wife, Patricia Dobson of Philadelphia, PA; siblings, Rodney Dobson (Kim) of Greensboro, NC, Marcus Brandon of Greensboro, NC and LaToshia Brandon of Washington, DC; Kevin Myrick Philadelphia, PA, Tanya Crespo, Concord, NC; his in-laws, Ernest and Annie Rorie of Liberty, NC; brother in- law, James Rorie (Angela) of Trinity, NC, and sisters-in-law, Sheila and Tanya Rorie of High Point, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that honor his legacy.

The family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming output of support and ask for your continued prayers going forward.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Greater First United Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
