Steven ‘Black Heart’ Bryant was born September 20, 1978, to Carolyn Bryant and the late Larry Bryant. He leaves his mother, oldest sister, LaTausha Young-McWay (Frederick); older brother, Larry Young Sr. (Quanedra); and older sister, Felicia Bryant, to cherish his memories; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Starting with honorable mention of LeDearrius J. Young (7/2/90-3/2/2015) who also preceded him in death (Taurion Grey-Young and Zamari Bowling-Young), Pamela Young (J’Naya), Destiny Young (LeDearrius, Terrence Jones Jr., and Dezhan Hankins-Young), Larynz L. Redd Sr. (Larynz Jr.), KaThryn Redd (Davion Green Jr.), Jacario Young (Woodey), Larry Young Jr. (Landon), Zakarian and Aleriah Young, Trevona Taylor, Telicia and LaTonya Bryant (Jacaria Carr), and a multitude of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends who he loved dearly and loved him back.
Steven gave his life to Christ at an early age at the former Holy Temple Spiritual Church under the guidance and life-long mentorship of the late Elder Robert Young Sr., his grandfather. He served on the youth usher and deacon boards and was a part of the youth choir. Steven was a Christian, spiritual man who knew and loved God. He was a man of service, generous, and giving with a heart of gold. He was forgiving and acknowledged the power of the blood by the way he shined and revered and loved on his family and friends he called family. His life was testimonial, and he experienced many tragedies and triumphs but never took for granted the importance of family.
Steven was a smart and ambitious man blessed with many skills and talents he used for the benefit of others. He proudly earned his general equivalency diploma against many odds and pressed forward for a better life. He obtained his ASE brake certification, and continued to build from what he learned from his grandfather, whom he esteemed as his first mechanic mentor. He was so proud when he obtained his HVAC certification, then later his Diesel Mechanic certification, ultimately owning his own towing business and mechanic shop. He was a tenacious entrepreneur and business owner, yet down to earth and practical, always willing to share his knowledge. He was the standing DJ at just about all family events. He was truly a doer and lived his life doing unto others. He worked hard and persevered and was at peace with the gift of life.
He found solace in riding his motorcycle and he dutifully served as the President of the Hail Raisers Motorcycle Unit until he rested his soul. His unit name “DJ Black Heart” is most ironic because his heart was farthest from black. He was truly a gift from God, and we are grateful for God loaning him to us.
Steven ‘Black Heart’ Bryant will truly be missed and remembered.
