Obituary For Robert L. Price

Our beloved Robert L. Price Sr. of Martinsville, VA and Brooklyn, NY departed this life on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Robert was born on February 14, 1946, in Ridgeway, VA to the late James C. “Connie” Price and Sarah Hairston. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra R. “Gina" Price and their daughter Tia Price, two granddaughters: Regina Price and Surrayah Goldson; and three brothers: Henry Schoefield, Tommie L., and Roy Hairston.

Robert converted to Islam in the 1970’s. His faith impacted how he developed friendships in all walks of life and the work he would do for the general public. Robert made his Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) twice and stopped at no lengths to service our people. He was an F.O.I. Captain in the late 1980’s - early 1990’s at Muhammad’s Mosque #7 and later a Minister in the 1990’s at Muhammad’s Mosque #7C.

Robert obtained his dual license as a Master Barber and Cosmetologist in the early 1970s. For 45+ years he was a successful entrepreneur with a chain of True Dream Unisex salons, Respect for Life barbershops and beauty salons, Respect for Life Bookstore and Fish, Fish & Mo’ Fish Sports Lounge. Robert implemented an apprenticeship at his barbershops specifically for formerly incarcerated individuals to assist them with reintegrating into society. A man of many talents, Robert was a skilled carpenter and a Partner in a construction company. He was a pillar of the community in Flatbush, Clinton Hill, and Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn for 30+ years with the Merchants Association and annual Flatbush Avenue “Street Fair”.

Those left to cherish his memory include: three daughters: Melissa Price of Greensboro, NC, Azeenauddina Price Yominmou (Blanchard) & Samiyyah Price (Jacques) of Brooklyn, NY, along with seven sons: Robert “Rocky“ Price Jr. and Damon Brown Price of Bronx, NY, Courtney “Cho” Price (Tiffany) of Bassett, VA; Deron Sweazie of Kansas City, MO, DeSean Sweazie, Ishaq Price, Aamir Price (Tyeisha), and loving former wife of 36 amazing years, Renée Price of Brooklyn, NY; twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, two sisters: Elder Annie "Beck" Schoefield of Yonkers, NY and Blanche “Kitty” Hairston of Martinsville, VA; two brothers: William C. Price (Jean) and James C. Schoolfeld (Jincy) of Martinsville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Hairston of Martinsville, VA, and Sylvia Hairston of SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
