Obituary For Bruce Edward Bryant

BRUCE EDWARD BRYANT “WALLY”, son of the late Howard Bryant and the late Cynthia Margaretta Drayton Pettigrew Bryant Collins, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

He received his early formal education at the former Hygenic Public School in Steelton. After his family relocated to Harrisburg, he attended the former Edison Junior High School and graduated in 1966 from the former John Harris Senior High School..

In 1967, Bruce entered the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Thailand and upon returning stateside he was stationed in California until his final destination of Andrews Air Force Base and the Pentagon as a Tech Sergeant. In February of 1987, he retired with 20 years of service and returned to Harrisburg.

An avid sports fan, Bruce followed the Washington Redskins, (now known as the Commanders), the Georgetown Hoyas and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also loved following local sports teams and if anyone had a child in sports if you told Bruce, he would do his very best to attend.

A giving heart and a charitable spirit, Bruce always had a few dollars to give to the kids especially if they did well in school. His spirit led him to call family members and friends every Wednesday and when he called he would politely say, “well I have to go because I have more calls to make”.

As a civilian, Bruce was employed by the Department of Revenue where he worked as a supervisor. After his “second” retirement he moved back to Washington, D.C., but due to his declining health he returned home where he was a resident of Capitol Rehab until his passing.

On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Bruce shed his earthly body and gained his eternal wings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Troy Bryant. He leaves to cherish precious memories of him, his sisters, Tanya Jones, Verna Archie, Tracell Collins-Smith, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Shelley Bryant of Union City, Georgia; his three nephews, Michael Jones, Jr. of Georgia, Darian Archie of Las Vegas and Conner Bryant of Georgia; his two nieces, Aja Jones of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Jessica Bryant of Georgia; his great nephews, Quinten Jones, Bryce Row and Luke Jenkins III, all of Georgia; his great niece, Troi Stern of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; his aunts, Ida Mae Brown and Mary Bryant and a host of cousins, extended family and friends, all of whom will miss him, but most of all his love.

Bruce's life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Monday, May 1 with viewing and visitation 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Bruce and I worked in the Lien Section together in the Bureau of Compliance when he first started with the state. We always talked Lakers' basketball (Magic Johnson and Kareem), our favorite team. He used to call me a fair weather fan because I didn't watch all of the games. LOL He was a great man and always happy. Rest in Peace, Bruce! Condolences to the Bryant family. 😢🥰

I was fortunate to know Bruce when i was assigned to the State tower at Strawberry Sq.. He always had a smile and would often stop and chat with me. I am saddened to see he has passed. However being in declining health is not fully living. Bruce loved life, his co workers and especially his family. May you rest easy Bruce. It was a pleasure to have known you. Ofc. Dianne Murray CPD (ret.) Millsboro, Delaware.

I had the pleasure of knowing Bruce since 9th grade at Edison Jr. High School, and as classmates and close friends at John Harris High School. We spent lots of time together hanging out with our other close friends, participating in and attending school activities and dances, and playing basketball at Reservoir Park. Without question, Bruce was my biggest fan while playing on the JHHS Pioneer football team and running track, and notably a well-known Pioneer football fan, follower, and supporter. Unexpectedly, Bruce was called to Glory just days after I had visited with him. No words can express the loss I feel in losing my longtime dear friend and Air Force comrade. RIP Bruce! Mel Waters, Sr.
