A faithful Christian, Bobbie was an active member of Community Congregational United Church of Christ where over the years she served as Church Announcer, Clerk of the Church, Chair of the Women's Ministry, and Sunday School Teacher. Because of her mother and siblings, education was important. She graduated with honors from each of the following: Druid High School in Tuscaloosa; Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL (B.S. degree), Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, IL (Master's degree); and was quite diligent in the pursuit of additional coursework in Illinois and Florida. She was a golden-life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a dedicated supporter of Alabama State University, and a contributor to many charities and organizations. Bobbie enjoyed and excelled in several careers including teacher; counselor; and fashion model in Chicago and New York; boutique owner in Tuscaloosa; personnel manager for American Television and Communications in Orlando, FL; and academic advisor, project manager, and coordinator/instructor of orientation at Alabama State University where she authored the University specific coursebook for orientation classes. Writing, particularly poetry, was her passion. Upon retirement from ASU, she published her first book of poetry, THROUGH A PASSING CLOUD. A second book was in progress. The following members of her immediate family preceded her in death: Parents, Inez and Rufus Martin; siblings, Essie Martin Jefferson (Thomas), Rufus L. Martin (Bettye), Dr. Hugh P. Martin, Thomas J. Martin, and Othie Eaves; stepson, Rodney Parker; and beloved dog, BeauPrince. Those remembering her with love include husband, Willie James (Jim) Parker; sister, Martha Martin Lee (Tuscaloosa); stepdaughters, Sandra Parker and Jill Parker (Norcross, GA); grandchildren, Ashlee and Terrance Johnson (Norcross, GA), Essiance Parker; great-grandchildren, Mackenzy Johnson, Marlee Bailey; sister-in-law, Barbara Martin (Winter Springs, FL) and many nieces, nephews, cousins (particularly Char'Nae Smith-Hall), in-laws and friends. The Omega Omega Service of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to the BUILDING FUND of Community Congregational United Church of Christ.
