Charles you will truly be missed. You were a good friend we met serving in the Army at Fort Stewart. If there was something I needed you were there. We had just spoken not even a week ago. We laughed, I can't help but think did I miss something. You were a great friend. I love you Chuck.

And there we were ... at the border between Kuwait and Iraq. Our Senior Scout truck crashed into a Wadi / Large Ditch ruining the Engine. As the XO, I had to quickly think about how to manage this situation. It was 115 Degrees outside and there was a chemical warning so we were in full MOPP 4. I came up with a plan to head back to Basecamp in Kuwait and take an Engine off a HUMMV in the scrap yard. Slacks did not hesitate in volunteering for this mission, we rolled back and three of us lifted an engine off of one HUMMV, strapped it down on top of our HUMMV and drove the Engine back to the front lines. Slacks and our other Mechanic worked their magic and installed the new engine in a couple of hours. Please Note - We were in the middle of the dessert ... no auto shop tools, no lift, sunlight quickly fading. That truck made it through 60 days of heavy combat before we retired it! I am praying that Slacks has found piece. He was a good guy and team player. Be at Peace Brother.
