Obituary For Johnny Lyons

Mr. Johnny Lyons, 83, entered into rest, Monday, March 20, 2023, at his residence in Augusta, GA. He was a former employee at the Youth Development Center.

Johnny’s legacy will forever be cherished by his sons, Keith Lyons and Carlos Lyons; brothers, Samuel Lyons and Raymond Lyons; sister, Catherine Lyons; a host of other family members and dear friends.

A celebration of life will be 12 Noon, Monday, March 27, 2023, at Glovers Chapel Baptist Church (123 Glovers Chapel Road-Troy, SC.). Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing and visitation, Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 3PM-5PM, at Kinsey & Walton Funeral Home, 3618 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA. (706) 790-8858.

With the passing of each of James and Julia Lyons' children my heart sinks. I met six of the seven brothers through the Lyons Family Reunions, which became a regular gathering beginning in the late 1980s. I was introduced to Johnny in 1988 as he was going about cooking food for the reunion on the lawn of the old Days Inn Hotel in Greenwood. His personality was infectious and I looked forward to seeing him every two years that followed wherever the Lyons clan came together for their next reunion. I missed him in 2022 as he tended to his dear wife. Hearing the news in 2023 that I will miss him forever more saddens me. He brought joy to his family and inspiration to his friends.
