Nivan J. Proctor

01/29/1985 - 03/02/2023

Nivan Johnathan Proctor (known as “John”) was born into the Proctor Family on January 29, 1985, an unexpected blessing, on a rare snowy day in Memphis, Tennessee. He was named after his grandfather, Nevin Proctor, and his uncle, John Smith – two strong, hard-working men who loved their families, a legacy John strived to carry on during his lifetime.

John attended Germantown High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He also attended Stark State College in Canton, Ohio, where he majored in business management and Remington College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he majored in culinary arts. He was an excellent cook, concocting many gourmet dishes for his family.

John accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church - Westwood, under the leadership of the late Reverend James L. Netters. He often shared with friends and family how good God had been to him and how much mercy and grace God had shown him throughout his life.

John was the father of three beautiful children – his greatest pride and joy. John enjoyed his work and had recently started a new position at Helen of Troy in Olive Branch, Mississippi, as a certified, licensed forklift operator.

John had a loud, joyful and boisterous spirit, a strong love for his family, and was a very positive supporter and encourager of his loved ones. He had a big, beautiful smile that could light up a room and charm the wind into a song. John was truly a treasure and loved by many.

John departed this worldly life suddenly on March 2, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life: his three children, Nija U. Kennedy, Kameron M. Proctor and Londyn C. Proctor; mom, Ruby C. Proctor; brothers, Bartholomew Christopher Cole (Nancy) and Robert S. Proctor, II; sisters, Priscilla Hill (Gary), Pauline Jenkins, Pamela Holloway (Darrell), Sterling Saulsberry (Morgan), and Beverly Proctor-Donald (Daryl); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him, including Zacherie Thomas, Dennis Cole, Doral S. Littlejohn, Mark A. Stigger and Daryl “DJ” Donald, Jr. John was expecting his first granddaughter to be born in May of 2023. He also leaves to cherish his memory his fiancé, Veronica Joyner, and his loyal dog, Sam.

John was preceded in death by Robert S. Proctor, and his grandparents.
