My Dear Uncle Steve, you certainly made your mark on this world. It is you and Bert who gave me one of life's most precious gifts...the gift of music! I can still hear the song you sang to me as a very young child—something you made up about a little girl named "Mechelle". ☺️ I remember when you came home from the military and purchased that "GTO with a stick in the flo"...best car ever! Lol You will remain in my heart and memory as the uncle who knew how to have a good time, an uncle who was instrumental in my childhood, an uncle who was perhaps my fathers favorite sibling. May the two of you feel honored to have lived such exciting, impactful, & joy-filled lives. Rest in peace, as your legacy and fond memories of you live on. ❤️ ~ Michelle (Mechelle) Barnes

He that humbles himself SHALL be exalted. We exalt you for the man you were. Proud but not conceited. Down but never defeated. Not perfect, but pretty darn close. Often sought out the most Your soothing voice made your words beautiful songs that made us feel wrapped in your love. A gentle soul, never mean. You saw the unseen. You always made time, dropped in on a dime. No matter who, everyone was just as important to you and for that you're forever loved. One could never be sad or remain mad around you. In darkness you chose to see the light. You evoked positive vibes in negative spaces. With patience you ran your races. Your light will forever shine in our hearts. You sung with the passion of soulful ancestors gone on before you. Your melodious voice had the richness of a million kingdoms. But the greatest of all this was the charity you've shown May your works speak for you kind sir. Take your rest Uncle Steve, your work here is done. Love your niece, Danielle Parker

I Remember Steve "It's a boy! My father said as he came through the door. Oh, what a happy day. A boy after all the girls in the house. Stevenson Battle Barnes. He was the first to eat food from a jar. (Gerber). The first to be nursed from a bottle(Carnation Condensed milk) The first to sit on the floor playing Fats Dominoe's "Blue Berry Hill on a toy piano. At age three he sang with mama in the kitchen "Lord is my savior", kept the tune, but the words came out "Lord is my shayeyor". Drove a tricycle through every room in the house going about 5 miles per hour with Dell hanging on the back of it. He walked away from home to go find his Father in the fields down a wood path. Tell him "don't touch the heater it's hot ". He touched it to make sure. He sang "I Got that Feeling " and danced better than James Brown. Taught himself to play the guitar and played Tennessee Waltz for everybody. He would give the shirt off his back and say "We'll he needed it" We Love him. Steve wherever you are if you get the chance, Dance! Sister Mary

Dear Brother Steve. High School friend Hazel Whitakers Ransom called to extend her condolences. She said it's such a shame you're gone at 29yrs old. I tried to correct her. It took me a minute to remember how you always said you were 29yrs old. Her recollection had us both laughing. Miss you but memories of you shared from family and friends is making your homegoing joyful as you would have liked to be. As you would say, "that'll work❤️

Uncle Steve... one of the legendary three, along with Uncle Raymond and Dada, aka Uncle Bo. Growing up with your three was challenging, annoying, and even embarrassing at times ❤️ but man, there are also many awesome, entertaining, and funny memories. I'm going to miss your wonderful singing backed up by the other two's croaking 😂. They tried. You were musically gifted all around. Loved your guitar skills and you were a decent dancer, too! Tell Dada I said hello, and remember, y'all GOT TO BE MO CAREFUL! up there 🥰

Brother Steve, you accomplished so many feats during your Earthly journey. You were on the front line intergrating schools as a boy. You worked on farms in tobacco and cotton. You served our country in the Army. You were quite a rascal at times but generous in helping others. Your singing and guitar playing brought joy to so many. You delivered loads in your 18 Wheeler as "Running Bear". You were my first playmate building dirt farms with alka-selzer and cereal boxes under the porch of our house on Mr. Harris' farm, catching junebugs and butterflies. You were DARING. We were Sonny and Cher and Ike and Tina as we sang for Momma. I am happy your spirit was at peace as you departed your earthly body and it's soaring with so many family and friends who went before you. Ten Four with love. Country Roads have Taken you HOME🙏🏻. Your sister, Bessie Barnes Jackson ❤️
