Deacon Robert Arthur Thompson, Sr., was born on May 20, 1945, to the late Mrs. Gussie Protho Thompson and the late Mr. Arthur Thompson in Molena, Pike County, GA. He was educated in the Pike County School System. At an early age, he joined the White Plains Baptist Church. Seeing his faithfulness, he was later ordained a deacon. He was later promoted to be the Chairman of the Deacon Board. He loved his church and was dedicated to the Lord, to his church and to his pastor in his service. He loved visiting other churches and serving wherever he was needed. During his early manhood, he met Ms. Charlene Hobbs. On May 27, 1966, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. They shared fifty-seven years together until his passing. He was the father of three sons. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. During his leisure time, he enjoyed attending his church, worshipping with other churches, fishing, spending time with his family, and being around White Plains. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Elnora Parks; and seven brothers, Deacon Dave Thompson, Raymond Thompson, Marvin Thompson, Junior Passmore, Roy Passmore, Booker Thompson and Deacon J. B. (Nora) Harper. On Thursday, February 23, 2023, the Lord called Robert’s name and said, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” He answered the call and went home to eternal rest. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Mrs. Charlene H. Thompson of Thomaston, GA; three sons, Mr. Matthew Thompson of Thomaston, GA, Mr. Robert (Felicia) Thompson, Jr. of Griffin, GA and Mr. Bernard (Kimberly) Thompson of Jackson, GA; three grandchildren, Laquana Thompson, Justin Thompson, and Shakeyla Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Thomas, and Kennedy Thompson; one sister, Mrs. Ruby Hobbs of Miami, FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Burnette (Nate) Glanton of Zebulon, GA, Mrs. Mary Copeland of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Shirley Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Gloria Thompson of Manchester, GA, Mrs. Janice (Pastor Fred) Blackmon of Concord, GA, Ms. Beverly Hobbs of Thomaston, GA and Ms. Carla Bass of Decatur, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
