Mr. Jimmie Cameron passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023.
A service honoring his life will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Ebenezer Baptist Church; 2700 W. Vandalia Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407. The visitation will begin at 11 am and the service will follow at 11:30 am.
The internment will take place at 10 am on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery; 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Jimmie Cameron, the oldest son of the late James Barnes and Mary A. Cameron, was born in Wilson, North Carolina on January 24, 1949. He entered his rest on February 9, 2023.
He grew up in Wilson, North Carolina and was raised by his grandmother Annie Cameron. He was educated at San Vick Elementary School and Darden High School. At the age of 16, he moved to New York City and stayed with his aunt Dot and attended Glover Cleveland High School. Shortly after he returned to Wilson, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He honorably served in the Vietnam War, earning the prestigious ‘Purple Heart Medal’. After serving in the military, he returned to New York City where he was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring after 33 years. He was an active member of the New York Chapter of the Darden H.S. Alumni Association, serving as the Sergeant of Arms. He was a member of the Wilson Order of Elks.
In 1980, He met his loving wife Anita Joy Milton-Romain, they were blessed for 43 years of marriage. In 2004, they moved to Jamestown, North Carolina. He became an active member of the Riverwalk subdivision HOA and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Jimmie was a car enthusiast, a lover of jazz music, movies, dancing, jewelry and appreciated the finer things in life. Jimmie was a man who spoke his mind and expressed EXACTLY how he felt.
Jimmie was preceded in death by is his beloved grandmother (Annie), his parents (Mary and James), and sister (Nancy Williams).
He leaves to mourn: his wife Anita Cameron, his children Octavius Cameron, Tanya Cameron-Johnson, Dr. Jermaine Archer (Celeste), stepchildren, Stephanie Romain, Gerald Romain (Felisha), Vicki Woods (Randy), and Anita Romain. Beloved siblings, James Allen (Brenda), Larry King (Sharon), Joanne Cameron, Anjou (Ann) Harris (Victor), Donald Cannon, and brother-in-law Rick Williams, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
