Willie Mae Verdell was born to Elizabeth Givens, June 13, 1950, in Spuds, Florida. She was a student with the 1968 class at Walter E. Harris High School and worked for St. Johns County School District as a food service worker in the cafeteria. She also worked for St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department as a crossing guard. She leaves to mourn her: loving husband, Robert Verdell, Sr. Hastings, FL; five children, Robert Verdell Jr. (Marietta), Palm Coast, FL; Tranesha Hubert (Robert Ben) St. Augustine, FL; Shirley Ann Jackson (Brian Sr.) Hastings, FL; Tykesa Brinson (Terrence) Ocala, FL; Timothy Verdell (Felicia) St. Augustine, FL; two brothers, Henry Simon (Shirley) Palm Coast, FL; James Spivey (Kelly) Rochester, NY; sister, Sherry Fuller (Nathaniel) Armstrong, FL; and a host of grandchildren and extended family.
The Verdell family will receive friends and the community 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 20, at the Felix Coleman Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21, at the Walter E. Harris Community Center, 400 Harris St, Hastings. Interment will be held in Armstrong Cemetery.
