Obituary For Joan McCray

Joan Rebecca Evans McCray was born in Lancaster County South Carolina, May 20, 1936 to her loving parents, James and Nannie Mae Horton Evans. She entered eternal rest on Monday December 26, 2022 at MUSC – Columbia. She attended Lancaster County Schools and graduated from Barr Street High School. She furthered her education at Friendship Jr. College in Rock Hill South Carolina. Joan worked with Allen Overall for many years and worked as a Home Health Care provider. She was a Caterer for special occasions. Joan also babysat many children in the neighborhood. She joined Pleasant Plain Baptist Church at an early age. She served faithfully in many capacities, including the Missionary Board, Sunday School, Pastors Aide and Heritage Choir. Joan was an Eastern Star for over 40 years as well as a member of the Daughters of Isis. She was united in holy matrimony to the late George McCray. Joan leaves fond memories with her son Earl McCray, two nephews she helped raise, Charles Evans and Rev. Jimmy Evans. Two granddaughters Jada Wright and Myairea Witherspoon, two great grandchildren Ahmira Bittle and Ashton Butler, two sisters Evelyn Stewart and Willene Jamieson of Lancaster SC, sister-cousin Mamie Richardson of Lancaster SC, two sisters-in-law Pansy Evans of Pageland SC and Ida H. Evans of Charlotte NC, one aunt Betty Evans of Rock Hill SC. Five treasured nieces Patricia Evans, Emma J. Horisberger, Michella Watkins, Lynette Stewart and Emily Price along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Long time friends Lou Watts and Estelle Coffey. She was preceded in death by her loving brothers Rev. Colenzo Evans, Solomon Evans, Clayton Evans and her sister-cousin Rosetta Griffin.
