Emmitt Smith Jr. was born September 18th 1937 in the Ofahoma Community, Leake County Mississippi, to the union of Emmitt Smith, Sr. and Gussie Harris Smith. He received his early education in the Leake County public school system and worked diligently on the farm owned by his father Emmitt and Grandmother Lillie. At an early age, Emmitt Jr. accepted Christ at a summer revival in August, at Free Mission Church under the pastorate of Reverend Grant.

Emmitt affectionately refered to as, "Buddy" or "Mose", by his family and friends, was innovative, and possessed that entrepreneurial spirit. After his health failed, he never gave up work and maintained a positive attitude, even during his suffering. Emmitt Jr. departed this life on Thursday night October 20th 2022, at his home with his wife and children by his side.

He leave to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Levy Smith, daughters Jennifer Smith, Carthage, Ms., Janice Smith Neal, Jackson, Ms., and one son, Roy Smith, Carthage, Ms. He also leaves two devoted grandchildren, Dineshia Smith and Rashad Brown, five other grandchildren, T.J Gentry, Kevin Gentry, twins Tameka and Tameshia Gentry, Romoan Davis and five great grandchildren.

Emmitt Jr. is survived by his loving oldest sister Lena Pearl Morris, Jackson, Ms., and other sister Dorothy Bass, Chicago, Ill., Ruby Graham, Carthage, Ms., Essie Kavanaugh (Richard) and Vernice Schopp, Villa Rica, Georgia, and Marvin Smith, (Sheree) Madison, Ms. He also leaves to treasure his memory, special in-laws Archie Levy, Charlie Levy (Clara), Murphy Levy(Bertha), L.J. Levy (Lavelle), Maggie Griffin and Levi Anderson.

Many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends will always treasure his kind and gentle spirit. His loving parents, Emmitt and Gussie, his sweet daughter Katrina Smith Gentry, his devoted brother Roy Sterchi, two sisters, Jeanette Anderson and Brenda Smith preceded him in death.
