Obituary For Mrs. Georgianna Jones Rhodes

Funeral services for Mrs. Georgianna Jones Rhodes, 83, of 556 Kings Road, Orangeburg, SC, will be held 11:00am, Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Exodus Baptist Church, 2431 Charleston Highway, Orangeburg, with interment to follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Georgianna Jones Rhodes was born August 12, 1939, in Orangeburg County to the late Booker T. and Elzonia Lockard Jones. On Friday afternoon, December 23, 2022, she peacefully transitioned home with her Heavenly Father.

Georgianna was reared in a Christian and loving home. This gave her a firm foundation and faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The lessons and values taught by her parents molded her to become a gracious and devoted woman of God. She was a faithful member of Exodus Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and served as a member of the gospel choir, trustee board, and as the financial secretary. As the church financial secretary, she kept meticulous records.

Georgianna knew the value of education. She obtained two degrees from South Carolina State College both in Math, a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree. Her life’s profession was also her life’s passion. She taught math to hundreds of children at Branchville High School for thirty years before retiring.

Georgianna always liked being challenged and spent countless hours with word puzzles. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, music, cooking, watching movies, and spending time with her precious family, and absolutely adored her grands and great-grands.

Georgianna was married to the love of her life, Benjamin Rhodes for sixty years. This union was blessed with three children, Rodney, Teresa, and Angela.

Georgianna will be remembered by her family: a loving and devoted husband, Benjamin Rhodes; children, Benjamin Rodney (Althea) Rhodes, Teresa Ann (Carl) Rhodes-Smith, and Angela Yvette (Ervin III) Nelson; grandchildren, Benjamin A. (Katie) Rhodes, Brianna Smith, Alyssa Rhodes, Ervin Nelson IV, and Trevon Nelson; great-granddaughters, Piper Rhodes, Kennedy Nelson, Madison Nelson, and Kamryn Nelson; brother, Edward (Emma) Jones; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice Dessaure, Delores Green, Eartha Hubbard, Annie Ruth Jones, and Nathaniel Rhodes; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 1:00pm - 6:00pm.
