Ms. Mary Byers Campbell of Shelby, NC departed this life on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby. She was born on January 1, 1950 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Tommy Byers, Sr. and the late Lucinda Goolsby Byers.

Mary was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School. A very hard working person, she was employed as a seamstress for over 30 years in the manufacturing field as well as working at the same time at McDonalds and Wendy’s restaurants for over 20 years.

Known as “Big Mama” to her family, she loved cooking for them and it was truly her passion. Her other pastimes included playing softball in her younger days, carp fishing and shopping with her “road dog” Treazure.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Matthew Byers, Donald Byers and Arthur Byers; sister, Juanita Stafford Crocker; grandmother who helped rear her, Minnola Smith Byers and a great-granddaughter, Ashunti Walker.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her children, Eric Byers of Morganton, NC, Shaun “Wolf” Campbell and Lajuana Flack (Shocki) both of Shelby; brother, Tommy " Shelby Shorty" Byers, Jr. of Shelby; step-children, Trina Ross (Mark), Donnie Gidney (Brenda) both of Shelby and Montreal Dillingham of Germany; grandchildren, Sierra Campbell of Spartanburg, SC, Keiona Gidney, Shaunquize Brown, Demaurice Campbell, Treazure Flack, Shanee Bussey (George), Latoya Walker all of Shelby and Martika Gidney of Charlotte, NC; eleven great-grandchildren; special niece, Angela Byers Hosch of Shelby; aunt, Barbara Jefferies of Lincolnton, NC; in-laws, Jeanette Byers of Shelby, Kenneth Crocker of Kings Mountain, NC, Matthew “Map” Campbell of Lawndale, NC, Aileen Toms and Helen Campbell both of Kingstown, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Changer’s Church. Burial will take place at the Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church and at other times 742 Vale Street.
