Mary Hall

God saw fit to bless the union of Robert F. Donnell and Jessie Graves on September 10, 1915, with a little girl named Mary Sue Donnell. She was a bundle of joy, who followed in her father’s footsteps, he was a Deacon at Locust Grove Church. Mary Sue started teaching Bible Study and singing in the choir at Poplar Grove Church. Mary Sue finally ended up at White Oak Grove Church where she taught children biblical principles. Mary Sue's husband Rev, A. M. Hall completed his pastorship at Bethel AME Zion where she would occasionally attend and saw the church become fruitful and grow larger.

Mary Sue Donnell Hall departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 22,2022. Mary Sue was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, and later went to St. Signa Hospital where she received OJT (on the Job Training) in nursing and X-Ray Technician. However, she fell in love with her husband to be, Rev. A.M. Hall. Five years later they started their family. To this union, God gave the 9 children, 8 of this union and 1 added into. Once her family came forth, she began working several jobs, Piedmont Hospital, Cerebral Palsy School, and Gateway Education Program. She also enjoyed babysitting, filling in for teachers, ironing, and cleaning house. She was determined not to let her family do without anything. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren no matter what.

Even though Mary Sue did not complete her passion for becoming a nurse, she remained knowledgeable of the skills she learned. Her skills were a tremendous help when her 2nd grandson, Harry was born, she checked centimeters of dilation and was of great assistance during his delivery. During these years and going forward, Mary Sue always made sure her family checked on others, to care for them and even sent her daughter Patricia to care for one of the aunts, for a short amount of time.

Another passion she had was cooking and baking. She won several awards for her cakes, pies and cookies. Mary Sue’s Red Velvet Cake, Hummingbird Cake, Oatmeal Raisin cookies, Banana Nut bread, and hot fresh bread was the absolute best! She often tried new creative ideas for her baking recipes.

Mary Sue has three requests of which two were completed; the first was to return to church where she could be in an atmosphere of singing songs of praise and worshipping God. October 2010, she became very fond of Pastor Michael Thomas, Sr. Pastor of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, (she always wanted to meet him). Her second request was also granted; She wanted to go back to work after being retired for 27 years. So, her daughter Patricia, spoke with Dr. Carl Hoffman who was very impressed and took her on and paid her for days she worked. Mary Sue was extremely happy. Her third request was that all her family come together in PEACE, which is in the making that her soul may rest in peace.

Funeral will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 1:30pm Love and Faith Christian Fellowship Church. Visitation 1pm.

Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
