Tyrone "Billy' McAfee

02/17/1941 - 10/24/2022

On February 17, 1941, Tyrone "Billy" McAfee was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the late Emmit McAfee and Dessie Ree Scott. Tyrone had two sisters, Mottie Mae (who preceded him in death) and Bobbie Jean.

Tyrone graduated from Tipton Street High School in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He moved to Chicago and worked as a Carburetor Assembler with Champion Parts Rebuilder. He then worked for Chicago and Eastern IL Railroad in Dolton, IL. In 1975, Tyrone joined the U.S. Army. During his service, he was promoted to Sergeant, training soldiers to load, launch and fire Hawk anti-craft missiles. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and Expert M16 Rifle. The service motivated him to continue his college education after leaving in 1979. He completed two years of studies at Tougaloo College, Tugaloo, Mississippi and then moved back to Chicago, Illinois to attend Chicago State University, maintaining a GPA of 3.75. Tyrone worked as a city Bus Driver in Chicago, IL and Houston, TX, and retired as a School Bus Driver for Kosciusko School District in Kosciusko, MS.

Tyrone accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and later joined Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Cleotis Woods. He enjoyed making a joyful noise unto the Lord as a member of the Male Choir and attending Sunday School and worship service until his health started to decline.

Tyrone enjoyed his children, family and friends. He would always talk about the accomplishments of all his children and how proud he was of them. He greeted everyone with a smile and would say "Hey There, how are you?" If things weren't going well in your life his statement would be "Everything is okay, and it will work itself out." He kept an open-door policy for friends and family that he grew up with that anytime they visited Kosciusko they always had a place to stay. Whenever he and his friends got together, it was football, basketball and great stories.
