Open Letter to Dad, My Dude Dear Dad, I want to thank you again for trusting me to take care of your daughter and being a great father In-law. Never taking sides, one for or against the other, but always providing rational wisdom and great martial counsel to Donna and me. All of your words of advice and encouragement, were always predicated on Love and Respect. I also want you to know Dad, that you were the father that I never had. I always admired your unswerving commitment to your children. And I can still hear your parting words of I love you and if you need anything, call me. Your word was your bond, and you didn't say it if you didn't mean it or weren't going to do it. Dad you are a man of convictions, and principals, with a high moral compass. Even though, I have only been blessed to have known you for ten years, I feel as though I have known you all of my life. Dad, I want to thank you again for having faith, trust, and confidence in me to assist you with your medical, veteran, and financial affairs. It was a long journey and fight with the VA to get them to rectify a 50-plus-year-old injustice. But with the assistance of your family, we were able to win that battle. Dad, I want to thank you for sharing with me so many great and interesting stories about your life, especially growing up as a young man in the Era of Jim Crow. God blessed you to come back home from the War, build your business, and establish yourself as one of the premier brick masons, in the Upstate. Dad, I want to thank you for marrying Doris Atchison Clowney because it was through this union that my beloved wife, Donna Clowney, your firstborn entered the world. And many years later we would find each other, and with your blessings Tate, we would marry. Thank You, Sir. Dad, you had many personal battles in your 90 years of life, including the health challenges that ultimately took you away from us 110 years early than your intended goal of 200 years. But despite all the racial injustices, health issues, and loss of family members. etc. you never were without a smile on your handsome face, right up to the last moments before your transition back to your Creator. And in the 10 years that I have been blessed to have been a part of your life and you mine, I have never met anyone who encountered you, who didn't walk away from you with a smile on their face or didn't say what a wonderful person you were, or didn't feel better after you parted ways. You are truly a great human being with a heart of Gold! And I can openly confess that I am a better man, husband, and father because of you. I will miss our In-depth conversations about family, religion, and politics., You were so well versed on so many subjects and you were not afraid to stand up and defend those opinions and beliefs against anyone, including family. In addition to your love and commitment to your extended family, children, friends, and all of those individuals who had the pleasure of meeting you, it was your strong convictions and your belief in your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that completed your life. Your belief in God was not measured by how many scriptures you know or could recite, but it was the life you lead that best exemplified what God commands of us all. Thank you for being that reflection. Now, Dad, you can take your sit at the council table with your mother Javana Mills Clowney, your father Adolphus Clowney, your brothers, Adolphus (AD) Clowney, Eugene Clowney, William (Little Bill) Clowney, and sister, Elizabeth Stripling, and all of the other family members who have transitioned before you. I pray that God Almighty forgives your sins, transgressions, and errors, rests your soul, and blesses you with Peace and Paradise in the Here -After. With Love, Respect, And Honor, Your Son Bilal, AKA Doc.

Dear Family, Tate was one of the good ones; full of stories that made you laugh so hard you'd cry. His home going was a surprise to us here in Indianapolis. Our family always made a point to see Tate whenever we were visiting Spartanburg. It just won't be the same but please know, our cousin was special to us and very much loved. We send our sincere condolences. The Allene Clowney-Childs family Carole M. Adams
