Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church, Cottonton, AL with Rev. Tyrone Thomas, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Friday, October 14, 2022 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Mrs. Gladys Johnson James, the daughter of the Jesse James Thomas and late Marie Sanks Johnson was born in Russell County, Alabama on Thursday, October 31, 1963.
Gladys accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jesse Quarles, Jr. where she served in the choir until her health declined.
Gladys was a 1981 graduate of Mount Olive High School in Fort Mitchell, Alabama where she played the clarinet in the high school band. Upon completing high school she attended and graduated from Meadows College. With a great passion and love for children she joined Childcare Network, Inc. where she worked as a dedicated employee for 30 years until her health declined.
Gladys loved the Lord, loved her husband and children, loved her family, loved her friends and loved to cook.
Glady was preceded in death by her mother, Marie S. Johnson.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband of 29 years, Willie James; one son, Jared R. James; one daughter, Gabrielle James of Phenix City, AL; devoted father, Jesse James Thomas of Phenix City, Alabama; one brother, Joe (Jeanette) Sanks of Columbus, Georgia; four sisters, Virginia (Jeffrey) Reaves, Ft. Walton Beach FL, Lexie Marie Johnson, Mobile AL, Emma Johnson and her twin sister, Gloria Johnson both of Fort Mitchell, AL; four aunts, Mary (Tommy) Dixon, Lucy Sanks of Fort Mitchell, AL, Annie (Percy) Hill of Phenix City, AL and Helen Breckenridge of Oakland, CA; two brothers-in-law, Curtis Lee James and Joseph James; one sister-in-law, Brenda Jakes, of Phenix City, AL; five nephews, Jasper (Kristine) Sank, Houston, TX, Thomas Reaves, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Bennie Sims, Mobile, AL, Sean Jakes, and Cory Jakes, Fort Mitchell, AL seven nieces, Demetrius L. Sanks, Atlanta, GA, Jamika (Seldrick) Tarver, Phenix City, AL, Debrika Johnson, LaKeisha Johnson Bendrea Sims of Mobile AL, Amber (Pierre) Jones and Jasmine Johnson of Spring Hill, TN; 22 great nieces and nephews; six great-great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
