Craig Wendell Johnson, 48, entrepreneur and founder of “Phunky Feet” designer sock company, passed this life on September 23, 2022, in his McKinney, Texas home. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1974, and was baptized at Centenary United Methodist Church. Craig was the youngest of two children born to the union of the late Augustus Lee Johnson and Dora Anderson Johnson.
Craig graduated from Ridgeway High School with honors in 1992 and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1997. During his time as a Volunteer, Craig was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. - Mu Rho chapter in 1994. After graduation, he worked as an engineer in Lithonia, Georgia, and in 2003, obtained his MBA at Clark Atlanta University where he met his wife, Linh Pham Johnson. They were married in 2005 and built their family in McKinney, Texas. Through their union, they brought two amazing daughters into the world, Nyla Symone (14) and London Ella (12).
Craig had a successful career as an engineer, brand marketing manager and entrepreneur. However, the greatest job he could have ever held was that of dad and soccer coach to his beautiful daughters. Soccer is their passion, and they were his. Inspired by his angels, he authored two children’s books, “I Can Be - A Story for Dads and Daughters” and “Dance and Donuts with Dad.” Craig had a bright, energetic, and witty personality that was infectious. He had a gift for touching others and bringing joy and laughter into the lives of everyone he encountered. Family and friends were at the heart of everything he did. Craig was a tried-and-true UT Vols fan and a dedicated fraternity brother who enjoyed traveling, working out, and caring for Miles, his furry child. Craig strived to make lasting contributions to his community.
Craig is survived by Linh Pham Johnson; his two daughters, Nyla Symone Johnson and London Ella Johnson; older brother, Byron Wayne Johnson (Jinni); bonus mother, Diane Johnson; bonus sisters, Danielle Jones and Crystal Armstrong (Kevin); four nephews, eight nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, fraternity brothers and a host of other relatives and family members.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at R. S. Lewis Funeral Home 2944 Walnut Grove Rd. Memphis, TN 38111. Homegoing service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00am Centenary United Methodist Church, 584 E. McLemore Ave. Memphis, TN 38106
