Mr. Roger Theodore Brown departed this life on Monday, October 3, 2022 at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC. He was born on August 10, 1939 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Theodore and Marjorie Alexander Brown.
Roger was a 1959 graduate of Camp High School. He was retired from the City of Shelby after having been employed there for eighteen years. Roger was a member of First Baptist Church of Earl where he joined as a teenager. He loved his church and was a dedicated member having served as a trustee, member of the Male choir, Senior Ambassadors, Commodity Committee and served wherever else he was needed. Among his hobbies was gospel singing. He was a longtime member of the Five Stars Gospel Group. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Stephanie, Deborah, Cecilia Ann and Tracy; grandson, Eric Dontrell and a sister, Betty McDuffie.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Mary Lockhart Brown; children, Roger Bernard Brown (Keisha) of Shelby, Phillip Brian Brown (Tami) of Charlotte, NC and Timothy Andrew Brown of Shelby; a sister, Dorothy Jefferies (Roger) of High Point, NC; a special niece who was reared in the home, Pamela Lockhart of Shelby; two aunts, Virginia Alexander and Margaret Alexander both of NY; two sisters-in-law, Shirly Edwards (Lou) of Shelby and Evangeline Hill of Detroit, MI; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Earl. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church and at other times at the home. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
