Obituary For Richard Sandidge

Mr. Richard C. Sandidge was born May 19, 1939, in DeSoto County, to the late Edward and Annie Sandidge. He accepted Christ at an early age at Dean Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He served as an Usher under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Bryant until his health failed. Richard was a 1959 graduate of Hernando High School where he was a member of the basketball team and the marching band. He was employed with Sealy Mattress for years and later joined “Memphis Finest”, The Memphis Police Department. During his tenure with the department, he trained rookie patrolmen, received the rank of Sargeant, and was a General Investigation Detective. He devoted twenty-five years of service to the department. Concurrent with the department, Richard was a security officer for Federal Express, serving another twenty years of employment. In 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Earnestine Smith Sandidge. The union birthed three children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Richard will forever be loved and cherished by his wife of sixty-one years, Earnestine Smith Sandidge; three children, Janet Sandidge-Allen (Larry) of Rosenberg, Texas, Sandra D. Sandidge, and Richard L. Sandidge, Sr. (Alicia) of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Chasity Sandidge (Kymesha) of Kileen, Texas, Richard L. Sandidge, Jr., and Rickal Sandidge of Memphis, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, Rylee, Mariah and Richard L. Sandidge, III, all of Memphis, Tennessee; his sibling, Robert Sandidge (Louise); four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sandidge, Mary Alice Young and Helen Smith of Memphis, Tennessee, and Olivia Sandidge of Chicago, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Morris Smith of Memphis, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. Mr. Sandidge was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, James, and Lloyd Sandidge, and one sister, Teamora Watson.

The family has scheduled a public viewing at Dean Hill Baptist Church, 5100 Dean Rd Nesbit, MS, for Sunday September 25, 2022, from 12 pm until service of celebration time at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Ave.

He was a dedicated and faithful lifelong member of Dean Hill where he served the Usher Ministry for a number of years. His presence will be greatly missed. To brother, Deacon Robert Sandidge, wife, Mrs. Earnestine, and children, you have been faithful caregivers. Your service and diligence has been recognized and recorded with God. Mr. Richard is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior. We share in your loss and grieve with you. But we grieve not as those without hope but as those with hope.
