I will never forget meeting Annie for the first time. I was a brand new volunteer for the CommUnity Thanksgiving celebration at old Convention Hall in 2009. I really wasn't sure what to do but someone said to get in the line to make meals and I did that over and over and over again helping put together 200 or 300 meals or whatever it was. Taking a rest mid-morning, I stepped away and Annie came up to me and asked me my name and thanked me for what I was doing. She did not know me from Adam but she was so sincere and absolutely thankful that I was there to volunteer. It made such an impression that I came back the next year and the next and the next and I came to realize that Annie was the heart and soul of CommUnity Thanksgiving. She was there from the very first meal and made sure that all the meals after that were served and were delicious - year after year. It may have started small that first year at New Liberty in East Gadsden but this past November we served 10,556 meals, Alabama's largest Thanksgiving celebration and that legacy belongs to Annie. She and my wonderful memories of her will be with me always. My condolences to Annie's entire family. Craig Scott, Director of the Gadsden Public Library and Co-Chair of CommUnity Thanksgiving
