Vanessa Tillman Sills Monk was born October 13, 1953 in Wadesboro, North Carolina to the late Thomas Tillman and the late Gloria Tillman.

Vanessa graduated from Bowman High School in Wadesboro, North Carolina. After graduation, she moved to New York to attend Flight Attendant School. She ended up pursuing a career in the United States Postal Service in 1973.

Vanessa attended Gatewood Station AME Zion Church in Morven, NC and Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church in Wadesboro, NC.

Vanessa married the late Daniel Sills of Queens, New York. She then later married the late Harold Monk.

Precious memories of Vanessa are left with her three children, Charisse Tillman, Demont Monk and Tiffany Monk all of NY/NC; three grandchildren, Tiana McCall of NY/NC, Eythan Monk and De’Monee Monk both of NC; three fur babies, Sagge, Sugar Bell and Londyn; sisters and brothers, Ethel Tillman of High Point, NC, Annie Fagan of Wadesboro, NC, Mezedo Tillman of Wadesboro, NC, Gloria Murphy of High Point, NC, Thomas (Marite) Tillman of Wadesboro, NC and Henry Tillman (Irma) of High Point, NC; nieces and nephews; best friend, Gwendolyn Lewis of Pennsylvania; special cousin, Mary Thomas of Weddington, NC; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Vanessa Tillman Sills Monk said “Good Bye” and went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2022. She joins her siblings, Benjamin Tillman and Mary Michael.

A Memorial Service to Honor the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Monk will be on Sunday, September 18, 2022, 2:30pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
