Shelia Alberta Neal, daughter of Dianne (Neal) Arrington and Emory Malcom, was born in Monroe, Georgia on October 20, 1963. She was the eldest of five children -- one sister and three brothers.
The family moved to Atlanta when Shelia was a small child. Later she attended Bass High School and participated in the Band and excelled in math graduating in 1981.
She found joy in numbers, her love for math allowed her to find a way to use her knowledge and experience at various companies in the metro Atlanta area. Her final employment was with Atlanta Public School (APS) System, where she worked in various accounting positions in the District; her final position was as Purchasing Supervisor.
Shelia gave her life to Christ at an early age and during her adult years she became a member of Saint Philip AME Church, where she joined the Soprano section of the Sanctuary Choir. Shelia was devoted to her family and would arrange holiday dinners with family and friends. She was known for selecting fun games and exciting prizes, which we all enjoyed. Her hobby was playing cards as her favorite past times (Bid Wiz, Poker and Blackjack).
Shelia loved her children, but she adored and was proud of her grandchildren and this could be seen by the way she cared for them. They affectionately call her “Nana” and she meant the world to them. Shelia was also like a mother-figure to her siblings, always guiding and would discipline them with love when needed.
Shelia made her transition from this earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, maternal and paternal grandparents.
Sheila, a loving mother and grandmother, will forever be remembered and leave to cherish her memory - a devoted mother, her children Demario Phillips and Seantesa Weems; grandchildren Amirr Phillips, Saniyah Britt, and Camille Wortham; sister Tammy Merrell; brothers Gregory (Yolanda) Neal, Dexter Brown, Xavier Grimes, and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and other close relatives, Church family and friends.
