Harold Lord Jefferson, was born on August 8, 1935 in Cordova, South Carolina, to the late Thomas and Ad line Jefferson. Harold was the youngest of six children.
Harold was a graduate of Great Branch High School in Cordova, South Carolina.
In 1955, Harold joined the United States Navy. He served with the USS Forrestal in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. After completing his tour in 1959, Harold with pride, received an Honorable Discharge.
Harold was united in matrimony on January 22, 1958 to Helen Felder Jefferson for 64 years. From this union they were blessed with one daughter, Carla Von Jefferson.
Harold migrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1959. He worked at Greenpoint Supply Company as a foreman for over twenty years. After Greenpoint Supply Company closed down, he became gainfully employed at Bruce Supply Company as a Shop Steward.
Mr. Jefferson joined Bridge Street A.W.M.E. Church in 1982, under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Fred A. Lucas, Jr. He served as the sergeant of arms of the Edward A. Carter Veterans Ministry and was a member of the Junior Steward Board and a member of class #38. He has remained an active church member ever since.
Harold retired in 1994 from Bruce Supply Company, after working for over 30 years. Harold Jefferson was honored and received the Veteran of the Year Award from the Edward A. Carter Veterans Ministry.
Harold joined the Retired Gen5s Club, where he resided and continued to plan activities and events for the community and others. He enjoyed playing bid whist, dancing, traveling and most of all, spending time with his family. Preceding him in death were his grandson, Ja-hmani Darby Brown; two sisters, Thelma Tucker and Elma Thomas; and two brothers, Melton Jefferson and Shelton Jefferson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of sixty-four years, Helen Jefferson; two daughters, Denise Hawkins and Carla Von Jefferson; one sister, Ella Julia Caldwell; one granddaughter, Uhura Hawkins; one brother-in-law, James Felder (Betty}; one sister-in-law, W. Jefferson Priester; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces. He also leaves many cherished cousins, special friends and the Bridge Street A.W.M.E. Church Family.
There will be no public viewing.
