Marshall Leon Ferguson, 64, passed away in Portsmouth, VA on July 15, 2022. Mr. Ferguson was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Ferguson.
He was a graduate of Woodruff High School, Class of 1976. Marshall also graduated from Hampton University, Hampton, VA, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in biology and certification in Cytology.
Mr. Ferguson served in the US Navy as a Medical Coroner.
He was a member of Zion Prospect Baptist Church located in Yorktown, VA, where he served as a Youth Bible Study Teacher.
Marshall retired as a supervisor of the Pathology and Cytology Department at Labcorp in Chesapeake, VA. He was currently employed at Sentara Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC and Sentara in Norfolk, VA.
Marshall was a man of many gifts; he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and love. Marshall loved his family dearly; he went the extra mile to care for others.
Marshall was preceded in death by his siblings: Willie Lee Ferguson, James Cleveland "Tee" Ferguson and Margaret Rhodes; and his sister-in-law, Davene Manzano.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife, Ria Dorese Porter Ferguson; his children, Jamica Monique Porter, Marshall Jaylen Ferguson and Ania Marshay Ferguson of Portsmouth, VA; his sisters, Jessie P. Ferguson and Beatrice (John) Lyles of Spartanburg, SC, and Minister Sylvia A. Ferguson of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law, Dorothy Harrell of Portsmouth, VA; sister-in-law, Tarra Murphy and Ronnetta Souza of Portsmouth, VA; brother-in-law, David Porter and Otis Lebar of Portsmouth, VA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and childhood family and friends from his hometown of Woodruff, SC.
A Celebration of the Life of Marshall Leon Ferguson will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Harrison Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 299 Harrison Grove Rd., Roebuck, SC. Livestream will be available via Facebook on the TEEFERGUSONREPORT.

This is such a great loss for Marshall was a friend and support for so many. I had the honor of working with Marshall at the Naval Hospital, NHL and then LabCorp; no one could diagnose thyroid Cytology as well as he did, I was always in awe if his spot on diagnosis.
