Obituary For Nakia Young

Nakia Larae Young was born on Thursday, February 24, 1977 to the late Toni Queen and the late Arthur Young in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Kiki or Nikki as she was often called received her formal education at OLBS Catholic School, then entered John Harris High School. Throughout high school she participated in the Marching Band and was a member of the Lady Cougars basketball and softball teams. Nakia graduated and enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania She joined Bethel AME Church and helped out with whatever needed to be done whether it was in the dining room, kitchen or the missionaries. She pursued her career helping disabled and autism patients for many years at United Cerebral Palsy of Central Pennsylvania. Nakia retired then cooked at Staybridge Suites and The Glass Lounge Restaurant. Nakia was a loving and giving person. She gave from her heart and loved people whether they loved her or not. She found love and followed her dreams. She was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan. On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Nakia Larae Young, at the age of 45 years, 3 months and 11 days, transitioned into eternal life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Georgia Horton and Rachel Broadnax; her aunt, Sherri Wright and her great uncles, Jerrel and Anthony Jones. She leaves to cherish precious memories of her and their life together, her aunt, Patricia Bourber; her extended family member Avery; her godsons, Mykeal and Honor; her two brothers, Daniel Young and Jonathan Peoples; her sister Takina Brown; her godmother, Iris Nance; her aunts, Tish Marie Manigult and Tracie; her uncles, Mike, Bryan and Bay; her cousin Shawn; her best friends, Tammakia and Kimyata; a beloved friend, Octavia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nakia’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 1 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home at 704 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA 17113 with Visitation from 11:30 AM until 12 Noon.
