Obituary For Mrs. Betty Louise Peguese

Mrs. Betty Louise McCollum Peguese, 88, peacefully passed away on April 15, 2022, at her home. She was born on December 10, 1933, in High Point, NC, a daughter of the late Beulah McCollum Harrison. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard Harrison; her grandmother, Bessie McCollum; three sisters, Elizabeth Gillem, Maebell Dorsey and Rezelia Strawder; one brother, Leslie Murphy, Jr. two aunts, Hazel McCollum, and Elizabeth McCollum; a great-aunt, Cassie Lindsay.

Betty attended the High Point Public Schools, and was a graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1952. After high school, she attended National School of Business in Nashville, TN. Betty was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the flower committee. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with High Point Bank and Trust and First Citizens Bank as a bookkeeper and teller.

Betty loved planting and caring for flowers and plants, as you would see inside and outside her home. One of her greatest accomplishments was the organization of the first Southside Reunion. Betty enjoyed constant communication with her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband of 66½ years, Freddie Peguese; three sons, Freddie Peguese, Jr. (Dianne), Kevin Peguese (Felisa), and Ricki Peguese, all of High Point, NC; eight grandchildren, Mia Peguese, Tyson Peguese, Freddrick Peguese, Nicole Peguese Compton, Yvonne McDonald, Jason Peguese, Bryan Peguese, and Michael McDonald; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Catherine Bailey; a special cousin, Bessie Mae Threadgill; special friends, Ida LeGrande and Ruth Sibert; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

I had the opportunity to visit Betty with my grandmother, her special cousin Bessie Threadgill, over the past couple of years. Being around Betty truly warmed my heart and filled my spirits. To Cousin Freddie Peguese,Sr. and Family, It saddens us to hear of Betty's passing. Helen Easterling Williams described her so eloquently and I agree with her 100%. Betty's presence was like a bright light. You felt better whenever you met her;always with a smile and laughter. Heaven gained another wonderful soul once Betty took her final earthly bow and gained her wings.She will surely be missed. The news of Aunt Betty's transition to her heavenly home hit us (The Easterling Family) really hard. Aunt Betty was a family favorite. From the moment we met, she filled our hearts with joy and laughter. She had a sense of humor that blessed everyone. I, for one, just wanted to be in the same room with her, for surely I would leave feeling better. She was a living epistle of Christ. Love exuded from her very presence. Heaven was always a great place, but her presence there, I am sure, somehow improved it all the more. God knew it was time to bring her home. It always warmed my heart to see them working in the yard and making things pretty. They definitely both took pride in their house and property. My deepest condolences to the Peguese family on the passing of Mrs. Betty Peguese. It saddened me when I heard the news of the passing of Ms. Betty. I've known Mrs. Betty from a youth up, but I really got go know her better when I became her neighbor some years back. Mrs. Betty was a real neighbor and demonstrated this in her actions. When my vehicle stop running and had to be put in the shop for repairs, Mrs. Betty transported me to several places that I needed to go. If I was short of something in my household, I could go to Mrs. Betty and if she could help, she would. Sometimes I would just go visit her to talk about flowers and beautifying a yard something we both had in common.
