Obituary

James Edward Cody, affectionately known as “Pee-Wee” by his family and close friends, transitioned to be with the Lord on March 26, 2022 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Brooks County, Georgia on July 25, 1943 to the late Raymond Cody and Mattie Thompson. He was raised by his step-father Noah Brown and Mattie Thompson Brown.

James accepted Christ at a young age at Graham Chapel Church. James was a faithful member of Graham Chapel CME Church was he served as chairman of the Steward Board.

He was always jovial and kind-hearted and greeted everyone with a warm smile.

He was united in holy matrimony to Catherine Dixon on February 8, 1967. To this union, one daughter was born, Tamara Nichelle Cody.

James graduated from Washington Street High School in Quitman, GA in 1961, where he was a outstanding football player with the Wildcats.

James was a dedicated man with an outstanding work ethic. He worked several years at Trust Joist Company, before the company closed. Later he was hired at Valdosta State Prison and retired as a Correctional Officer Supervisor.

Cherishing his memories is his wife of 55 years, Catherine Cody; A devoted daughter, Tamara N. Cody; A loving grandson, Noah James Cody; Sister, Faye Laverne Davis of Hollywood, FL; Sister-in-laws, Arlene Howard of St. Petersburg, Mary Moore (Milton) of Powder Springs, GA and Emma Bradley of Lauderhill, FL; One brother-in-law William O. Dixon (Altimease) of Albany, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11AM at Crossing Jordan Baptist Church with Rev. James Miller, Eulogist. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery in Quitman. Visitation will be Friday at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 4PM-7PM.
