Ms. Velma Pennyman

Passed 03/22/2022

Ms. Velma Pennyman was born to the late Mrs. Annie Mae Traylor Pennyman and the late Mr. John Wesley Pennyman on January 2, 1935 in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. She was educated in the public schools of Upson County. At an early age, Velma joined the Pine Grove Baptist Church. She loved going to church, hearing the preached word, and working in the church. She was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed. Even when she could not attend, she was always concerned about the church. During her working years, Velma was employed by the William Carter Company as an embroiderer. Although she had no children, she helped to raise several of her nieces and nephews. Her family was very dear to her, and she was loved in return. During her leisure time, Velma enjoyed cooking and especially baking. She was well known for her Chow Chow, pepper sauce and chicken dressing. She was a dependable caregiver; hairdresser, press and curl style; and babysitter. She also loved spending time with her family and doing whatever she could for others. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Blanche Pennyman, Mary Lee Lyons and Alberta Webb; brothers, James Albert Pennyman, Charlie Thomas Pennyman, Edgar Pennyman, Willie Lewis Pennyman, Robert Wright Pennyman and Wesley Pennyman; a nephew she raised, Leroy Pennyman. On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, the Lord whispered Velma’s name, she answered the call and went home to eternal rest. She will be greatly missed by her family, but her memory will live on. Velma is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Bentley of Yatesville, GA and Mrs. Nettie Ruth Johnson of Hollywood, FL; one brother, Mr. Olin Pennyman of McDonough, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Jimmie Lee Pennyman, Mrs. Clara Lou Pennyman and Mrs. Annie Grace Pennyman all of Thomaston, GA, and Mr. Walter Henry Webb of Musella, GA; devoted nieces and nephews who were more like her children, Ms. Elizabeth Kendall of Yatesville, GA, Ms. Sheila Pennyman of Macon, GA and Mr. Curtis Pennyman of Atlanta, GA; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
