Dr. William Rupert Bruner, II also known as “Bucky” passed away, March 15, 2022, after a long battle with his health. He was a native of Ashford, Alabama where he graduated from Ashford High School. William completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Alabama. His years at The University would lead him to a love of Alabama football and the love of his life, Kaye Newman Bruner. After completing his undergraduate degree, William earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Following some great early years in Birmingham, William, Kaye, and their only daughter, Camille soon made Mobile, Alabama their home. William opened his dental practice in Saraland, Alabama and provided comprehensive dental care to that community for 47 years. He is a long-standing member of the American Dental Society and The Alabama Dental Association. William was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed his free time at Dauphin Island where he loved to fish and watch the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. William also had a love for birds, particularly the Purple Martins. He enjoyed waiting for the Purple Martins to return to his birdhouses year after year in the spring. Perhaps, William identified with these birds because of their strong resilience and loyalty. William is survived by his wife, Kaye Newman Bruner of 51 years of marriage; his daughter Camille Brewster; his grandchildren Walker Chandler, Jackson Chandler and Wells Brewster; his brother, Dr. Phillip B. Bruner; niece Kellie Quina; nephews Phillip Bruner and Vince Bruner. He is preceded in death by his parents, Onzelle and William (Bill) Bruner. The plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
