DR. TAMARA (EWELL) JACKSON of St. Petersburg, Florida, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, February 18, 2022 in St. Petersburg. Dr. Jackson was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jordan Ewell, Sr. and Wilhemina (Brown) Ewell. She was a debutante in Alpha Kappa Alpha Soroity, Epsilon Sigma Omega’s Cotillion , “Tammy” as she was affectionately called in Harrisburg, was a 1959 graduate of the former John Harris High School in Harrisburg. She attended Howard University from 1959-1963, where she was crowned Miss Howard, was initiated into Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and received her Bachelor’s Degree. She continued her education and received her Master of Science from Atlanta University and then received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery Dentistry from Howard University in 1969. She was licensed in Pennsylvania, Florida and in the Northeast region. At Howard University, she was an Assistant Professor of Community Dentistry from 1972-1974. Dr. Jackson was Professor at Temple University College of Dentistry from 1985-2012 and served on the Dental Hygiene Advisory Board for SPJC in 1978. Dr. Jackson held memberships and offices in several organization to include, a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since 1962 and served as President of AKA, Inc. Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter from 1982-1984, Leadership St. Petersburg Alumni Association from 1980-1984, Young Women's Residence from 1979 -1983, Southside Boys Club from 1976-1982, League of Women Voters, Women In Power - Pinellas County Chapter, National Council of Jewish Woman 1981, Directors Award Pinellas County Urban League 1983, Charter Member of both the St. Petersburg Chapter of The Links, Inc. in 1978 and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. - RHO Theta Omega Chapter and served as 4th Basileus/President from 1996-1999. In additioned to her parents, she was preceded in transitioning by her brother, Jordan Ewell, Jr. and she leaves cherished memories with her son, Dr. Jaih Christopher Jackson; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Griffie Jackson, Esq.; her grandchildren, Jordan Chloe Jackson and Emersen Leigh Jackson; her nephews, Jordan Ewell III and Brian Ewell; her niece, Holly Ewell Lewis and other relatives, Coleman Ewell, Clayton Ewell, Marshall Lewis, Evan Lewis, Maya Lewis, Brian Ewell, Jr. and friends. Dr. Tamara (Ewell) Jackson’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5 with a viewing, visitation and a time to share memories at 9:00 AM in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home. 704 N. Front St., Steelton, PA, followed by a Graveside Service and Burial in William Howard Day Cemetery in Steelton at 10:00 AM. COVID-19 Guidelines will be observed with face masks for all attendees. Our family is grateful for the outpouring of love, support and encouragement we received during Tammy's final years.
