Florence H. Simpson, 72, 2022 of Reidsville, NC passed February 15,2022. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday February 22, 2022, at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. Funeral service will be 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Rising Star Baptist Church, Eden, NC with burial following at Eden Garden Cemetery, Eden, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday February 21, 2022, at 168 Evelyn Court, Reidsville, NC 27320.
The family will be following all CDC guidelines: mask face coverings and social distancing. Florence H. Simpson was the 6th child born to the late Alphonso Hampton and Lena Dupee Hampton. She was born in Eden (Leaksville), NC and resided in Reidsville, NC. Her transition from this life was made complete on February 15, 2022 at the Hospice House in Asheboro, NC.
Florence’s formal education began at Douglass Elementary School leading to her 1968 graduation from Morehead High School. She continued her education of higher learning at Winston Salem State University. During her time there, in addition to pledging Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, she was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1972. Florence received her master’s degrees in Intermediate Education and Supervision in School Administration from NC A &T State University. The majority of her career was spent as a school administrator in both Rockingham County in NC and Henry County, VA.
She was united in marriage to Bobby Ronald Simpson. To this union were born three children, Patrick, Marquis, and Amy. She and Bobby were true soul mates. They had a deep and abiding love for God and their family. They studied and discussed the weekly Sunday School lessons, the interests and education of their children, Amy’s basketball games, bowling, and planting and taking care of their yard. For the last few years, one of her greatest joys was that of spending time with her granddaughter, Audrey. Each night she would use FaceTime to play with Audrey for one hour. She never missed an opportunity to teach her something new.
Her parents always carried her to Sunday School and church services. She learned about God at an early age and made the decision to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She became a member of Rising Star Baptist Church. Florence had a strong and intense prayer life. Because of it, she never lost her faith in God and was diligent in fulfilling her call to serve. “To whom much is given, much will be required”. (Luke 12:48) She was blessed with many gifts and talents. She willingly shared them with her church, schools and community. She always had a love for learning and teaching. In 2005, she founded the Booker T. Washington High School Heritage Association. The legacy of her hard work and efforts can still be seen in the mini museum at the SCORE center in Reidsville, NC. For years, prior to her illness, Florence attended two bible study classes every Wednesday. She taught Sunday School for 37 plus years at Rising Star. Eventually, she taught those teachers who had taught her earlier in her faith journey. Florence was the director of Vacation Bible School for more years than one can count. It was amazing to watch her teach others how to transform a fellowship hall into a place of wonder that could intrigue and motivate any child or adult.
When Florence became ill, she did not want anyone to tell “Her Story”. That was her story and she wanted to be the one to tell it. Actually, she had been telling her own story for 72 years. On February 15, her family believes that she heard the lyrics to the old Gospel song saying to her: Sit down, Servant, Sit down. Sit down and rest a little while.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a sister, Malinda H. Pass. Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Patrick Simpson (Krystal) of Reidsville, NC, Marquis Simpson (Virginia) of Winston Salem, NC, Amy Simpson of Wake Forest, NC and her granddaughter, Audrey Simpson of Winston Salem, NC. Also, those cherishing her memories are her brothers and sisters: Vernicia H. Hairston of Eden, NC, Alphonso Hampton, Jr. (Peaches) of Martinsville, VA, Eunice H. Hannah of Eden, NC, Marcus Eric Hampton (Elnoria) of Fredericksburg, VA, Karen H. Allen (Kenneth) of Eden, NC, Kathy H. Carter (Sandy) of Martinsville, VA and Dr. Frederick Hampton of Cleveland, OH. She leaves one brother-in-law, Henry Arnold Simpson to cherish her memories as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
My sincerest condolence to the Simpson Hampton family. I am so sorry to hear about Florence's passing. You are in my prayers. Cousin Jacqueline Price Schelfhaudt.

My heat is sad and overwhelmed at this news. I have so many wonderful memories with Mrs. Simpson. Mrs. Simpson hired me as a School Counselor at Laurel Park Middle School in 2007. She took me under her wings and loved and nurtured me as if I was her own. I remember her scolding me so hard until we both busted out laughing uncontrollably. She was a wonderful principal that put the Students needs first. What a great influence and mentor she was to me. I will always love her. Mrs. Simpson loved her birth children and grandchildren.
