Melvin Eugene Smith

Melvin Eugene Smith, 68, departed this life on February 3, 2022. Melvin was born February l, 1954 to loving parents, Herman T. Smith, Sr. and Bernice George Smith.

Melvin was a faithful and dedicated member at Cherry Street Church of God Sanctified for many years. While a member at Cherry Street, Melvin was President of the Brotherhood, and sung in the Senior Choir. He was a graduate of Austin-East High School's class of 1972. After graduation Melvin followed in his Father's footsteps as an employee at Norfolk Southern Railway for 19 years.

Melvin was preceded in death by parents, Herman T. and Bernice George Smith and beloved nephew Derek Smith. He is survived by his devoted brothers, Herman (Estelle) Smith, Jr., Mark Steven Smith, devoted sister, Lenniece A. Smith, and devoted niece's April Smith Brown and Markesha Smith, a host of great nieces and nephews, and many loving cousins and friends.

The family will receiving friends on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. with the Celebration of Life to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Zach Flack rendering the words of comfort.

The final resting place will be held at Crestview Cemetery immediately following the service. A dove release will conclude in his honor.

Mr. Smith will lie in state on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 1:00 pm. until 5:00 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel.

The family respectively asks that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced.
