Gerald Franklin Fields was born September 17, 1933, to the late William Frank Fields, Jr. and Vera Vertelle Norvell. Gerald, affectionately known as “Gerry,” was reared by his grandmother, Senata Norvell. Gerald was educated in the public school system of Hackensack, New Jersey. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack where his grandmother was a founding member. Gerald met and married the love of his life, Carol Joyce Hannon, in 1954. They had three daughters and one son. Gerald worked for many years at Chrysler Motor Corporation in South Hackensack, and later at Superior Tape until furthering his education to become a Master Technician with Pitney Bowes. Gerald and his family eventually moved to Hillside, New Jersey. In his spare time, Gerald loved playing the guitar with his band, Silent Storm. They were wellknown in Hackensack, playing at many weddings and events. Gerald was a phenomenal baseball player and would have gone to the minor league, but fell in love and started a family. Gerald loved to read and was self-taught in many things. He built a darkroom and developed pictures; he made barrels of wine from the grapevine in his yard; he built multi-level decks for his family’s enjoyment; he wrote several books and loved oil painting on canvas. There was nothing Gerald could not do if he read about it and had a genuine interest in making it happen. Gerald moved to Georgia in 2014. He departed his life peacefully on January 19, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Fields. Gerald leaves to cherish his loving memory, a brother, Matthew Fields (Donna, deceased) of Bridgeton, New Jersey; a son, Anthony “Tony” Fields of Hillside, New Jersey; three daughters, Karen Fields McClain (Lee) of West Palm Beach, Florida; Cheryl Fields (Kim) of Tampa, Florida and Cassandra Sheffield (Ron) of Lithia Springs, Georgia. To cherish fond memories of him, Gerald leaves his grandchildren: Jarell Sheffield (Kelli) of Lilburn, Georgia; Halima Presley (Justin) of Atlanta, Georgia; and Zane Fields of Hampton, Georgia, as well as five great-grandchildren: Jaron Sheffield, Caleb Sheffield, Noah Sheffield, Zoey Fields and Maliyah Presley. In addition to his immediate family, Gerald leaves a host
Gerald,Papa Fields, The day we moved next door to you began a life long friendship and and surrogate grandparents for our children. My boys couldn't have had better "grandparents" as you and Carol. We went through our ups and downs, political table tappingin your living room, backyard swimming parties and BBQ's discussions over the fence, travel, celebrations and sorrows. The lessons learned as part of the village will never be forgotten. You and Carol were a blessing to my family. It was indeed a pleasure to consider you "family"! You definately embodied the term village. You will be missed but never forgotten. Rest in Peace 🙏❤🙏 Roye-Ann Hargrove Wallace and family

Dear Pop Fieldd, what a treasure it was to be in your presence. You made my soul and spirit happy. Your home was always a great place to visit; from the front door to the pool in back. All were welcomed. You were the father figure that I never had for myself. Now, at this time; I simply want all to know that you blessed my life. Rest in Peace. And, be the true Angel that you were to all of us.

Daddy, Papa Fields You were everything a child could ask for. You turned us onto the Zoo, learn to swim in the ocean, all sports, horse back riding, numerology, horoscopes, genealogy tracing our history back to the 1800s, Worlds Fair, and many fun adventures. You will be missed, love you always. May you rest in Heaven with our many ancestors.

Gerald Fields, my second cousin was a mentor to me while I lived in New Jersey. He was a prime reservoir of knowledge and understanding that I very rarely get in this chaotic society. Him and Carol both influenced my view on how a relationship with a real connection can and should be. I have never met his (there) like since and I miss (Gerald and Carol) both. M Colin Alston

My husband Joseph and I worked with Jerry at Pitney Bowes for many years until his retirement. He was a wonderful man, quiet and gentle. He shared his love of genealogy with me. He would tell me about his adventures while trying to trace his family with his grandson. Jerry told me that he would like to write a book about his findings, I hope he was able to accomplish that. Yours, Janet Brillante
