Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Riverview Baptist Church Columbus, GA with Rev. Larry Williams, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Greater St. John Baptist Church Cemetery, Crawford, AL. Visitation is Friday, January 7, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Sis. Jerlean (Geraldine) Mobley Cowell was born on Monday May 05, 1947 to the late Marcellus Mobley Sr. and Elenora Mullins Mobley in Phenix City, AL. She was one of six siblings. As a child, she attended Sanford High School.
After understanding the importance of salvation at an early age, Jerlean confessed Jesus Christ and symbolized her dedication to serve Him by Joining Shiloh Baptist Church in the early 1970s. Her love for God led her to serve as a member of the gospel choir and chaplain of musical choir at Riverview Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Larry Williams.
For 33 years, Jerlean was the wife of the late James W. Cowell. The two united in marriage on Saturday, February 13, 1965 and remained together until his death on Wednesday, March 04, 1998. The union was blessed with 8 children.
In addition to being the Matriarch of the family, Jerlean was employed at Bibb Mill and Stratford Cafe in Columbus, GA as a waitress.
On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, the loving and caring voice of Jerlean was silenced into death at Magnolia Senior Living Facility in Columbus, GA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jerlean was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Mobley and one brother, Marcellus Mobley Jr.
Her family and friends are bless to have been touched by her goodness and grateful to be carriers of her memories. Jerlean will mostly be remembered as a virtuous and praying woman.
Her memories will forever be cherished within the hearts of four sons, Jessie James Cowell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Marshall (Marsha) James Cowell of El Paso, TX, Gregory (Kathy) Cowell of Des Moines, IA and Jerry (Essie) Ezekiel Cowell of Phenix City AL; three daughters, Charlene (MCCann) Sanders, Victoria Washington and Patricia Ann Brown all of Columbus GA; one brother, James Robert Mobley of Phenix City, AL; three sisters, Rosa Love Thomas and Lillie Jean Edwards both of Seattle, WA,; Evelene Huguley of Phenix City, AL; one aunt Mamie Battle of Salem, AL, 29 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
