Cousin Joyce and Cousin Tara, I have talked with Cousin Rev. Dr.Johnny Ray often over the years. I saw him on the campus of Paine College while I was attending. I called him periodically. Mom had me to check up on him as well. Each would inquire about the other. His wisdom was amazing. My late father had mentioned that Cousin was one of the persons that he had wished he had gotten the chance to interview regarding his doctoral dissertation on the Black Church. It is my prayer that God will grant you comfort, strength and peace. Continue to hold on to your faith. Love, the Philpot,Green and Dawson families. . . Cousin Susan Dawson.

We're praying for Joyce, Taura and the Hatney family. Our families met at Macedonia Baptist Church on Laney-Walker Blvd. in the early 70s. Rev. Hatney, Joyce and I were part of the Robert Lamar Choir with Joseph Jennings as Choir Master. When Rev. Hatney would sing, usually the choir would be the 1st ones in tears. Those were the days. Rest in Peace Rev. Hatney. Helen Williams Griffin, Dawn, D & Pierce.

My fondest memory of Rev. Johnny Hatney is sitting with him and one of his friends Rev. George Brightharp during a lunch meeting regarding the Paine College UNCF Scholarship Challenge. Rev Hatney committed $7,500 for the cause, and so did Rev. Brightharp pledged $7,500. Throughout the meeting, Rev. Hatney joked and entertained us (Alexis Tubman was also present). I learned during that encounter that Rev. Hatney was a giant force, a beacon of light, a change agent. His sense of humor lifted my spirit. He will be missed by the Paine College Family and the Augusta Community. I am praying for Taura and his wife Joyce. We love and adore Rev. Hatney and wish him Godspeed. HELENE CARTER OF PAINE COLLEGE

Our prayers are truly with Mrs Joyce, Taura and the Hatney family. Rev Hatney was not only my pastor when we lived in Augusta but also a friend and I stayed in touch with him often. I dont have enough space to tell how he blessed and helped my family but all i can say in this small space is that we lost a true man of God and a true caring person. My deepest sympathy to Sis. Joyce Hatney and the family. My Fondest memories of Dr. Hatney is having to always make him a cd with jazz music. Whenever Dr. Hatney saw me whether at a church service, asking kin folks about me or he see me out in the street. He would always say, "You know I waiting on my jazz cd". After I make one and send it to him he would always say that the cd was so great and how much he thoroughly enjoyed it. I thank God I had the opportunity to share contemporary jazz with such a great man. RIP Dr. Hatney, Emory Bennett
