Obituary For Shanequa Angel Watkins

Ms. Shanequa Angel Watkins (Nika) of 239 Cherry Mtn. St., Forest City, NC was born August 6, 1981 in Rutherford County, NC. She departed this life on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton, NC. She was the daughter of Lillie (Vet) Miller and Tracy Surratt. Nika was a graduate of East Rutherford High School and Alumni graduate of Western Carolina University, where she received her degree in Sociology with minor in Business Management. After graduation from college Shanequa worked as a case management tax preparer, until a sudden car accident prohibited her from working. She loved her daughter, family and friends dearly. She was a wonderful mother, who adored her family. She will be remembered for being a fighter because every battle she faced she overcame them. Her battles are over now. Nika was a strong believer in education. Nika became a member of New Bethel Independent Church at an early age, where she served on the usher board. She leaves to cherish her memories; one daughter, Sadiya Watkins, her mother, Lillie (Vet) Miller (Charles), her father, Tracy Surratt, three sisters, Ciera Watkins, Chandy Simmons, Tracalia McDonald, three brothers, Tracy Withrow, Tyrece Surratt, Tyrone Dewberry, four nieces, Destiny, Journee, Desharia, Diamond Watkins, one nephew, RJ Hill and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Nika, I didn't know you very well until we took driver's ed together. After that experience we were friends and bonded forever. We touched base off and on throughout the years. I am so thankful you were able to share your testimony with me. You are one of the toughest people I know. I am so sorry to your daughter you adored and the rest of your family. You will all be in my prayers.
