Obituary For Mrs. Leola Little Kirby

Leola Little Kirby, fondly called ‘Book’ by family and friends was born September 12, 1929 to the late Stell Little and Leona Little. She departed this life on October 19, 2021 at Hospice House of Union County, Monroe, NC.

Leola was a faithful and devoted member of Rocky Mount AME Zion Church, Ansonville, NC where she was a Mother of the Church.

She was a lifelong resident of Ansonville and was educated in the Anson County School System.

‘Book’ worked and retired from West Knitting Mill in Anson County. She was also a loyal caretaker and caregiver for many in the community. She was married to the late Willie Lee Kirby and to this union one son was born. ‘Book’ was a truly loving and devoted mother who was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, one son Leroy Kirby of Ansonville, NC, a host of relatives and friends who lovingly thought of her as Auntie and a devoted caretaker of 14 years, Delois Little.

The Services to Honor the Life of Mother Kirby were held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 1:00pm, Smith Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment followed at Rocky Mount AME Zion Church Cemetery, Ansonville, North Carolina.

Face Mask/Coverings are REQUIRED to be worn at all times during the viewing, visitation and services.

We knew Leola as Book, and she raised my brother and me while our parents worked. Book was one of the kindest, most loving folks in the world. She was a wonderful cook, and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She had a lovely way about her, and was a true lady. We will love her always.
