Evelyn received her K-12 education through the public school system of Dillon, SC. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Benedict College in Columbia, SC. In addition, she held a master’s degree, and was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Evelyn was a very faithful member of the Brookhaven Baptist Church in High Point, NC. There, she served in numerous capacities, including the Chairman of the Trustee's Board, President of the Usher's Board, Assistant Secretary of the Missionary Ministry, as well as being a member of various auxiliaries in the church. Evelyn was also a devout member of The Sister Circle, a women's empowerment organization committed to women supporting other women in their spiritual and natural goals. During her later years, she found much joy and fulfillment in the times of fellowship and service the sisterhood provided.
To many in the High Point community, she may be best known for her years of dedicated service as a manager in the Wendy’s Corporation. Evelyn’s leadership and her bright smile made lasting contributions to the company, those with whom she worked, and the many customers she served, as well. “Darlene” will always be remembered lovingly as a mother, daughter, sister, and aunt by her family. She was proud to not only be a mother to her only son, Brandon, but also to assist in rearing several of her nieces and nephews as well.
Those left to cherish her fond memories are her devoted son, Brandon McLellan (Vernetta); mother, Amy Lou McLellan; two brothers, Donald McLellan, and Kenneth (Dolly) McLellan; one sister, Joyce McLellan; significant other, Lester Epps; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
