Thomas Hugh McDowell

Thomas Hugh McDowell was born on August 4, 1942 to the late Booker T. McDowell, Sr. and Mary Alice Tinsley McDowell in Spartanburg County where he was reared in a loving home. Thomas graduated from Florence Chapel High School, Class of 1960. He was baptized at the Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church where he remained a member until his adolescence. Mr. McDowell retired from the United States Air Force after twenty-four years of active military duties. He also retired from the Adel Fire Department in Adel, GA. Minister McDowell was called to preach the Gospel in the early 1980s at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Adel, GA where he served until his return back home to South Carolina in 2008. Thomas loved the outdoors and anything that was mechanical. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his brother, Samuel J.; and his sister, Mildred. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his wife, Hazel McDowell; his five daughters, Katrina, Kim (Olu), Kenya (Shannon), Tamora (Corey) and Tiffany; his goddaughter who was reared as a daughter, Jaunarra Cornelious; his sisters, Mary Kelly of Spartanburg, SC and Betty Weicks of California; his three brothers, Minister Booker T. (Brenda) McDowell, Jr., Henry C. (Carolyn) McDowell and Kenneth L. (Sandra) McDowell all of Wellford, Sc; his eleven grandchildren, Kamron, Madison, Shannon, Jr., Kamoree, Morgan, Kaleb, Daniel, Logan, Jayden, Braylan and Braxton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Services will be held on: Saturday, July 31, 2021 Eleven O’Clock in the Morning Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery 1580 John Dodd Road Wellford, South Carolina
